New GS1 Data Model Changes for DIY, Garden & Pet Coming November 15
On November 15, the updated GS1 data model for the DIY, Garden & Pet sectors will go live. This release introduces several important changes affecting data submission and validation within the GS1 data pool. Below is an overview of the key updates.

Key changes:
- Country of origin (code) becomes mandatory (previously a warning).
- Contact type (code) becomes mandatory (previously a warning).
- Packaging type is now mandatory for the Netherlands as well, not just Belgium.
- Net weight becomes mandatory (previously a warning).
- Language-dependent texts become mandatory:
- For the Netherlands, a Dutch text is always required.
- For Belgium, both Dutch and French texts are required.
- GS1 had temporarily downgraded this rule to a warning, but as of November 15 it will again be mandatory as part of long-standing sector agreements.
- GPC brick revisions:
- Consolidation of bricks for various types of doors.
- Review of bricks for scissors (generic, garden, and DIY scissors for metal, wood, insulation, etc.).
- Merging of bricks for films used in pool and pond construction.
- Merging of bricks for protective films, floor covers, and similar products.
- Adjustments to picklists and attributes:
- Addition and removal of several codes and attributes.
- Updates to GPC brick translations following international definition clarifications.
- Discontinued attributes:
As of November 15, several attributes will be deprecated. Some have replacement attributes, listed in the published data model.
The discontinued attributes include:- Indications for connection types for gas and/or water fittings.
- Duplicate film property indicators.
- Alignment with internationally available attributes.
